The Cleveland City Board of Education had a full agenda at their monthly board meeting at Cleveland High School last night.
Resolution to Oppose School Consolidation
The Cleveland City Board of Education passed a resolution expressing opposition to the concept of school system consolidation in Bradley County.
The resolution, adopted unanimously, reflects the Board's deep commitment to preserving the legacy and integrity of Cleveland City Schools, which has been in continuous operation since 1885. With a current enrollment of 5,000 students across nine schools, the district has earned a distinguished reputation in academic and interscholastic pursuits, boasting notable graduates in various fields.
The Board's resolution emphasizes the lack of formal discussions or inquiries from any party before the publication of the letter, expressing concerns about the casual approach to such a significant topic. It highlights the absence of consideration for the immediate negative effects on students, school employees, and the community, as well as the potential challenges associated with reorganization, rezoning, and reallocation of students, and the ownership and control of property and facilities.
Cleveland City Board of Education strongly urges the Mayor and City Council to express unanimous disinterest in participating in discussions regarding any consolidation efforts between Cleveland City Schools and Bradley County Schools. The resolution also urges the rejection of invitations to participate in the formation of a unification planning commission for exploring the need for consolidation.

Mayfield Elementary: Randall Stephens, Principal of Mayfield Elementary, presented highlights from their campus.
CHS Wrestling Team: The Board recognized the Cleveland High School wrestling teams for their remarkable achievements, securing the Traditional State Championship title for the boys' team for the 7th consecutive time and the second time for the girls' team.
Strategic Plan Focus - Communication
Caroline Corrigan, Communication Specialist, provided an update on the Strategic Plan’s Communication focus.
The next board meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 1st, at the Administration Office Building, starting at 5:30 p.m.
