As the curtain rises on a new academic year, the halls of Cleveland Middle School echo a familiar name. Mr. Seaton Dasher, a Cleveland native, has started his first year as a Choir Teacher within the Cleveland City Schools system, bringing with him a wealth of experiences through the halls where he once walked as a student. His academic journey spans from Yates Primary to Cleveland High School.
However, his influence doesn't stop there. Mr. Dasher's family has become an integral part of the Cleveland City Schools system. With his uncle, Jason Dasher at Ross Elementary, and his aunt, Carrie Dasher at Cleveland High School, the Dasher legacy stands as a testament to their commitment to education. "I always get asked if I’m related to the Dasher,” Dasher shared. “I always say ‘Yes! That’s my uncle and aunt! I love having my family in the system.”
Mr. Dasher graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Music from Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee in 2021. Most recently, he finished his Master’s degree in Education from Bryan College. Growing up around the harmonies of his local church, music has been an integral part of his life. After starting his teaching career in Columbia, Dasher's path brought him back to the very city where his musical journey began.
Mr. Dasher's decision to return to Cleveland was not solely motivated by his personal history but by a symphony of changes in the educational landscape. The Cleveland City Board of Education’s decision to increase the pay scale for teachers in April resonated deeply with him. "It’s huge," Dasher emphasized, "The fact that the Cleveland City School system recognized that their teachers deserved more is a big deal." He continued, "I think that pay scale showed the teachers that Cleveland City Schools is fighting for their teachers."
