Over the weekend, the Cleveland High School wrestling teams secured the Traditional State Championship title for the 7th consecutive time for the boys' team and the second time for the girls' team. This victory comes on the heels of their recent success at the Dual State Championship, marking a double celebration for the dominant teams. The achievement follows last year's historic feat when Cleveland High School became the first to win in both the duals and traditional TSSAA Class AA State Tournament.
The wrestling legacy at Cleveland High School is synonymous with the Fowler family, and this weekend's success was no exception. Senior Logan Fowler, along with junior siblings Piper and Cy Fowler, not only secured three state championship titles but also left a mark on the Tennessee high school wrestling scene.
Senior Logan Fowler secured his third state championship win and the title of the most outstanding wrestler in the boys’ division. Piper Fowler also clinched her third state championship title and won the most outstanding wrestler title in the girls’ division. Meanwhile, Cy Fowler celebrated his first state title, marking a significant milestone in his wrestling career.
In fact, Logan and Piper are most likely the first siblings to be voted best wrestlers in the state of Tennessee.
Wrestling has been a part of the Fowler family since the siblings were very young. Their parents, who were high school sweethearts, share a wrestling connection as well - their father wrestled in high school, and their mother served as the wrestling manager. It has truly been a family affair, with even the older siblings contributing to the family legacy.
The family bond extends to the wrestling mat, with the siblings showcasing not only their competitive spirit but also their support for each other. "We're competitive in everything we do,” Logan mentioned. “There's nothing that's not a competition." Despite the rivalry, the trio acknowledges the role each has played in pushing the others to achieve their best.
"It's pretty unreal. Getting to grow up and watch how we all developed, that's really cool. Winning it, it's really cool to see that," Cy said. "It's really cool because we've been with each other since the beginning, and I think we're all the reason why we're at the point we are because of each other,” Piper reflected.
Looking forward, Piper has her eyes set on another world title after securing the U17 World Championship title in Istanbul, Turkey, in August.
Logan has committed to wrestle for the Air Force Academy after graduation. While Cy is looking forward to competing in his senior season.
The Fowlers also took a moment to express their gratitude to their coaches. "We've spent countless hours with the coaches; they put a lot of work into their wrestlers," Cy said. Piper added, "They always make sure if I have a goal, I'm going to reach it."
As the celebration continues, the Fowler family stands as a testament to the power of dedication, family support, and hard work.
Congratulations to the Cleveland High School wrestling teams and the Fowler siblings on their remarkable achievement!
